Freedom lose 6-5 to Rockford
Second game of series tonight
FALLS TO 0-4 ON ROAD TRIP AFTER 6-5 LOSS TO ROCKFORD
Roberto Valiente singled home Jason James in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday night to provide the winning run for Rockford as the host Riverhawks came from behind to post a 6-5 win over the Florence Freedom at Road Ranger Stadium in Love’s Park, Ill.
Rockford trailed 5-3 after Florence scored three times in the top of the fifth, keyed by left fielder Ryan Basham’s two-run homer to left.
The Riverhawks scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to tie the game, setting the stage for Valiente’s game-winner in the seventh.
The winning rally made a winner of relief pitcher Jason Baca (1-0), while Freedom reliever Jason Bennion fell to 0-2 with the loss.
The same two teams will meet again Saturday night at 8:05 p.m. EDT in the middle game of a three-game series. The Freedom (12-18) will send right-hander Dane Mason (2-3) to the mound.
