Brandon Cohen homered with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning Saturday night to give the host Rockford Riverhawks a 4-3 win over the Florence Freedom in Frontier League baseball action at Road Ranger Stadium in Love’s Park, Ill.

Cohen’s home run, his third of the season, came off Florence reliever Domingo Acosta (0-3), who was brought on to pitch the eighth after the Freedom battled back from a 3-0 deficit to tie it up with three runs in the top of the inning. Florence second baseman Greg Stone and center fielder Reggie Watson singled back to back to begin the eighth-inning rally and end the night for Rockford starter Brady Salter, who left with a 3-0 lead. Left-hander Dave Dowling then came on to face Freedom left fielder Ryan Basham, who laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third. A Dowling wild pitch brought in Stone with the first Freedom run, and first baseman Beau Blacken followed with a double off the wall in left-center field to plate Watson with the second run. After third baseman Tim Grogan struck out looking, catcher Nick Salotti pulled a double down the left field line to score Blacken from second and tie the game at 3-3.

Acosta struck out Rockford first baseman Matt Hagen to start the bottom of the eighth before Cohen’s homer gave the hosts the lead back. Right-hander Mike Marksbury, the brother of Freedom pitcher Matt Marksbury, worked a scoreless ninth for the Riverhawks to earn his seventh save.

Florence (12-19) has now dropped the first five games of a six-game, two-city road trip. The Freedom need a win tomorrow night over Rockford to avoid being swept for the second straight series. Florence will go with lefty Alain Quijano (1-1, 3.03) on the mound, while Rockford counters with left-hander Garrett Bauer (2-2, 3.91). Game time Sunday night is 7:05 p.m. EDT at Road Ranger Stadium.
