GAME RECAP / BOX SCORE

FREEDOM SWEEP WILD THINGS WITH 9-0 WIN SUNDAY AT WASHINGTON
Brown Hurls Eight Innings of One-Hit, Shutout Ball

The Florence Freedom completed a two-game sweep of East Division-leading Washington with a 9-0 rout of the Wild Things Sunday night at Consol Energy Park in Washington, Pa.

Rookie left-hander Luke Brown picked up his first career victory in only his second professional start by working eight innings of one-hit shutout ball, walking four and striking out seven. Brown (1-0) has allowed just one run and six hits in 15 innings of work since joining the Freedom last week.

Four Florence players enjoyed multiple-hit games as the Freedom offense totaled 15 hits against Washington starter Tom Cochran (6-3) and four relievers. First baseman Beau Blacken and second baseman Joe Holland both collected three hits to lead the hit parade. Six Freedom hitters drove in runs, paced by shortstop Greg Stone and catcher Josh Lex with two apiece.

With the win Florence reached the .500 mark at 28-28 and the Freedom gained a game on the first-place Wild Things (34-21) to move to within 6 ½ games of the East Division lead. After dropping their first five meetings with the Wild Things this season, Florence has now beaten Washington five straight times to even the season series between the division rivals at 5-5.

The Freedom are off Monday before opening a six-game home stand at 7:05 p.m. EDT Tuesday at Champion Window Field against the West Division-leading Gateway Grizzlies.
