Freedom lose to Gateway 4 - 3
Stone hits triple
The Freedom and the visiting Gateway Grizzlies concluded a three game series Thursday night at Champion Window Field. Florence sent the surging Josh Bruns to the mound, while Gateway sent one of their aces, Erik Dessau. Both teams were looking for a series win after the first two games were split. Gateway got the scoring started in the second, but the Freedom quickly answered in their half of the second. After Nick Salotti singled off to lead the inning, Joe Holland singled, and then both advanced on a sac bunt by Josh Lex. Salotti scored on a Jesse Acosta RBI groundout to tie the game at one. After Gateway took the lead in the third, the Freedom went ahead in the fourth. Greg Stone tripled in Jesse Acosta and Joe Holland to give Florence a 3-2 lead. That was all the Freedom offense would muster, and Gateway scored one in the fifth and another run in the ninth to win 4-3. Greg Stone drove in two runs on one swing of the bat, he went 1-5 with a triple and two RBI. Ryan Basham and Beau Blacken each went 2-5, while catcher Nick Salotti went 2-4 with a run scored. New Freedom shortstop Jesse Acosta went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Starter Josh Bruns went six, striking out seven.
