GAME RECAP / BOX SCORE

Wild Things Complete Sweep of Freedom with 4-3 Win
Mottram Falls HR Short of Cycle

The Washington Wild Things scored four times in the fourth inning and made it stand up for a narrow 4-3 win and a three-game series sweep over the visiting Florence Freedom in Frontier League baseball Sunday night at Consol Energy Park in Washington, Pa.

Wild Things first baseman Robbie Knapp provided the big hit with a two-run homer off Freedom starter Liam Shanahan (1-2). The other two runs off Shanahan were unearned. The right-hander worked seven innings and allowed 11 hits with three walks and three strikeouts as he dropped his second straight decision.

Florence broke through for its first run of the game in the sixth against Washington reliever Kevin Reese. With two outs, first baseman John Welch doubled and scored on designated hitter Billy Mottram’s first triple of the season. Right fielder Angel Molina produced a pair of run-scoring hits, including a two-out single in the ninth that plated Ryan Basham, who was on second after a double. Pinch-runner Scott Dunham was sent in to pinch-run for Molina at first, and when a pitch to center fielder Garth McKinney missed in the dirt, Dunham broke late for second and was thrown out to end the ballgame.

Mottram finished with a single, double and triple to pace the Freedom offense. He also drove in one of the four runs.

Chris Rivera (1-1) went five shutout innings to earn the win for Washington, while Heisel earned his first save.

After a day off Monday, Florence continues its six-game road trip with three games in Evansville against the 9-3 Otters, beginning at 8:05 p.m. EDT Tuesday. Lefty Chris Ingoglia (1-1) will start for the Freedom in search of his second straight win.
