Florence ends three game skid with rout of Chillicothe
Seven run inning powers Freedom to a 10-4 win
The Florence Freedom continued their recent trend of big innings with a seven run 4th inning. Yesterday, against Gateway, the Freedom scored eight runs in the eighth inning on the way to a 10-8 loss. However, things would be different this time around as the Freedom went on to achieve a 10-4 victory over the Chillicothe Paints. The Freedom started scoring early, with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Angel Molina singled and Garth McKinney blasted his team leading 5th homer of the season. It was a two run shot and gave the Freedom an early 2-0 lead. Chillicothe got a run back in the top of the 4th but the Freedom broke it open in the home half of the inning. Angel Molina led the inning off with a homer and Ryan Bashum added a two out grand slam, giving him sixteen RBI on the season, which ties him with Angel Molina for the team lead. Florence sent ten batters to the plate getting five hits and seven runs. Florence broke open a close game and led 9-1 after the fourth inning. The Freedom took a 10-2 lead into the top of the ninth inning. Chillicothe would get two runs off reliever Demetrius Banks but Banks made a spectacular defensive play to end the game. Adrian Cantu hit a rocket back up the middle which hit Banks in the leg. Banks chased the ball down and gunned it to first to record the out and end the game. Florence gets back to .500 with a 9-9 record and Chillicothe falls to one game under .500 with a 8-9 record. Florence concludes it’s homestead with a three game series against the Evansville Otters. The series beings Tuesday, June 10th.
