Seven-Run First Lifts Grizzlies to Sweep of Freedom
Molina Belts Pair of Solo Homers
The Gateway Grizzlies finished off their second three-game sweep of the Florence Freedom in the last week with an 11-6 win Sunday night at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Ill. The host Grizzlies (12-12) scored seven times in the first inning off Freedom rookie right-hander Everett Saul (2-1) and never trailed. The key blow was catcher Charlie Lisk’s grand slam. The Freedom clubbed four home runs in the game, but three of them were solo shots. First baseman Angel Molina belted a pair of solo shots to tie for the league lead with eight on the season. Designated hitter Kelly Hunt added a solo homer and catcher Eddie Gonzalez drilled a two-run shot during the Freedom’s three-run sixth inning. Florence (11-13) returns to Champion Window Field Monday night to begin a three-game series with the Washington Wild Things at 7:05 p.m. EDT.
