GAME RECAP / BOX SCORE

Washington defeats Florence 12-3
Groh shuts down the Freedom in his professional debut

Zach Groh pitched five innings of no-hit ball in his professional debut with the Washington Wild Things. The Washington Wild Things (12-13) defeated the Florence Freedom (12-14) for the fourth time this season 12-3. Washington scored twelve runs on fifteen hits to take the second game of a three game series.

Washington came out swinging in the top of the first inning, scoring four runs on four hits. Chris Sidick led off the game with a homer to give Washington a 1-0 lead. Robbie Knapp added a three run homer to left center field and Washington gave rookie pitcher Zach Groh a four run lead before he even took the mound.

Washington continued to add to the lead throughout the game, scoring three more runs in the third and two runs in the fourth. Washington had a nine run lead before the Freedom recorded their first hit.

Tim Grogan broke up the no-hitter with a two run homer in the top of the sixth inning, Grogan’s sixth homer of the season. Florence added another run in the seventh inning, but Zach Groh and the Washington bullpen held the powerful Florence offense to three runs on a season low four hits.

Florence pitcher Josh Bruns (3-2) struggled pitching on short rest. Bruns gave up nine runs on nine hits in three innings. Zach Groh (1-0) went six innings, giving up one run on one hit and striking out eight Florence batters.

Washington and Florence will play the rubber match of a three game series on Wednesday June 18th. Washington has a 4-1 record against the Freedom in 2008.
