Ingoglia pitches one hit shutout to blank Washington
Pitching and defense power Florence to a 5-0 victory
The Florence Freedom got their best pitching performance of the season from starter Chris Ingoglia. Ingoglia pitched a complete game shutout, the first complete game for a Freedom pitcher since the last game of the 2007 season. Ingoglia struck out eight batters, giving up only one hit on 125 pitches. Ingoglia got some help from the Florence defense. Tim Grogan made two phenomenal plays at third base. With the Freedom leading 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning, Tim Grogan made a great play on a hard hit line drive to rob Kris Rochelle of a hit. Ryan Basham followed Grogan’s good play with one of his own. Basham made a diving catch in left field to rob the next hitter, Brett Grandstrand, of a base hit. Grogan made another spectacular play in the bottom of the 8th inning. Grandstrand put down a near perfect bunt down the third base line. Grogan charged the grounder and barehanded it, firing to first and retiring the speedy Grandstrand by only a step. The Freedom offense woke up after a sluggish night in yesterday’s ballgame. Florence struck early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Billy Mottram hit a two out single with the bases loaded to score Tim Grogan and Johnny Washington. Angel Molina duplicated Billy Mottram’s hit in the next inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Angel Molina singled in Eddie Gonzalez and Johnny Washington to give the Freedom a 4-0 lead. The Freedom tacked on one more run in the home half of the seventh. Billy Mottram hit a two out solo homer, giving the Freedom five runs, all of which were scored with two outs. The Florence Freedom (13-14) took the rubber game from the Washington Wild Things (12-14) to win the series. Florence travels to Chillicothe on Thursday before opening a twelve game homestead on Sunday, June 22nd.
