GAME RECAP / BOX SCORE

Kalamazoo beats Florence 7-4
Florence drops third straight against Kalamazoo

The Kalamazoo Kings have won their third game in a row against the Florence Freedom. Jeff Long picked up his fourth win of the season and Brandon Parillo picked up his league leading 13th save of the season.

The Florence Freedom jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. Garth McKinney reached on an error and Angel Molina drove him in with a two run homer. Molina missed the previous game with a sore shoulder, but the shoulder did not seem to bother him as he went 1-2 with two walks and a home run. Molina’s homer is his ninth homer of the season.

The Kings tied the score in the next half inning. Brendon Murphy hit a deep homer to center field after Kyle Kmiecik was hit by a pitch. The homer snapped a scoreless innings streak for Freedom starter Chris Ingoglia at ten. Ingoglia had a decent outing after pitching a one hit shutout on June 18th against Washington. Ingoglia went six and a third, giving up four runs on six hits, but it would not be enough and Ingoglia picked up his fourth loss of the season.

Kalamazoo took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Michael Russell hit a two-out solo homer to give the Kings their first lead of the ballgame. Kalamazoo would not trail again in the ballgame as they went on to an 8-5 victory. Brandon Parillo retired the Freedom 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth to record his 13th save of the season and his fourth save against the Freedom.

Florence will try to avoid the sweep as the two teams conclude their three game series tomorrow.
