GAME RECAP / BOX SCORE

Offense surges as Freedom route Midwest 14-4
Grogan leads Florence with two homers and five runs batted in

The Freedom offense exploded as Florence took the finale against the Midwest Sliders. Florence scored early and often, scoring fourteen runs in the ballgame, which is their second highest total of the season. The Freedom scored eighteen runs against the Evansville Otters on June 12th, winning that game 18-6.

Josh Bruns rebounded from a couple rough outings to pitch well and earn his fourth win of the season. Bruns went seven innings, giving up eight hits and four runs, three of which were earned. Bruns also struck out five Midwest batters and walked two.

Tim Grogan led the explosive Florence offense. Grogan was 3-3 with two homers and a double. Grogan also walked once and scored four runs and the Freedom offense had an all-around good evening. Six different players had RBIs and eight Freedom batters got at least one hit in the game.

Midwest had to use five pitchers and an infielder to retire the Freedom. Bryan Vickers, who plays first base for the Sliders, had to pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning. Vickers pitched fairly well for an infielder, giving up two runs on two hits.

Florence will try to continue their hot hitting against the best pitching staff in the frontier league. Traverse City comes to town for a three game series on June 28th, and the Beach Bums have a team ERA of only 3.55. Traverse City is second in the East Division of the Frontier League, with a 19-16 record. With the win against Midwest, Florence moves two games behind .500 with a 17-19 record.
