Florence loses 10-2
Nathanson shuts down the powerful Freedom offense
The Florence Freedom could not figure out starting pitcher David Nathanson. Nathanson picked up his seventh win of the season, which leads the Frontier League. Nathanson scattered five hits and gave up two runs in seven innings. Nathanson also struck out three batters and walked only one. Traverse City struck first in the top of third, scoring three runs off three hits. Right Fielder Brad Roblin led off the inning with a solo homer and Jake Whitesides added his league leading 39th RBI. Travese City added two more runs in the visiting half of the 6th inning, giving the Beach Bums a 5-0 lead. Florence chipped into the lead and got one back in the home half of the 6th. Jeff Landry scored on single to center field from Garth McKinney. Florence cut the lead to 5-1 but Traverse City broke it open in the top of the seventh. The Beach Bums batted nine batters and scored five runs in the top of the seventh. The Beach Bums hit two homers in the inning. Kyle Maunus hit a three run shot and Brad Miller added a solo homer as the Beach Bums collected five runs and five hits in the inning. Kelly Hunt hit a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh, but the Freedom would get no closer than 10-2. Pete McEneaney pitched two scoreless innings and Florence lost the second game of the three game series. The two teams will meet again tomorrow at Champion Windows Field to play the rubber match of their series.
