Garth McKinney leads Freedom attack as Florence wins 11-6
Offense surges as Florence scores nine runs in the first inning
Garth McKinney hit two homers and drove in three runs to lead the Freedom offense. McKinney hit both homers in the first inning. The first homer from McKinney was a monster shot that was hit over the scoreboard, one of the longest homers hit at Champion Window Field this season. The Freedom scored nine runs in the inning on six hits. The record for Freedom runs in an inning is ten. Florence starting pitcher Andy Clark cruised through most of the game after being staked to a 9-0 lead. Clark picked up his third win in four starts as he pitched seven innings, giving up only two runs on five hits. After the nine run first inning, the Freedom added two more runs. Both runs came on solo homers. Kelly Hunt hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third and Angel Molina hit a homer in the bottom of the 6th. There is a log jam atop the Freedom leaders in homers. Angel Molina leads the team with ten homers, but Tim Grogan, Kelly Hunt and Garth McKinney are all one back with nine homers. Chillicothe scored late in the ballgame, tailing five runs in the final three innings. However, it would not be enough and the Freedom won 11-6. Florence hit four homers in the game and scored over ten runs for the fourth time in six games. The Florence Freedom are now tied with the Chillicothe Paints in the Eastern Division. Both teams have a .500 record at 20-20. Florence and Chillicothe continue their series tomorrow and they will play the finale on Thursday, July 3rd.
