The Florence Freedom played a complete game and beat the Chillicothe Paints for the seventh time this season. Florence received good pitching and timely hitting to edge the Paints.

The Freedom scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Tim Grogan hit a lead-off double to start the game. After two groundouts, Angel Molina walked and the Freedom had runners on first and third with two outs. Nick Salotti hit a shot up the middle which scored Tim Grogan to give the Freedom an early lead. Billy Mottram scored Angel Molina on a base hit and the Freedom took a 2-0 lead.

The Chillicothe Paints briefly took the lead, their first lead of the series, in the top of the third inning. The Paints scored three runs off starting pitcher Josh Bruns. It was the only inning in which Bruns struggled. The lefty went seven innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on only five hits.

Florence evened things up in the bottom of the fourth. Kelly Hunt hit a solo homer, his 10th of the season, and the score was tied 3-3. Kelly Hunt is tied for second in the Frontier League in homers. Hunt is tied with teammates Angel Molina and Tim Grogan, and they are one back of Gateway’s Charlie Lisk.

Tim Grogan hit his 10th homer in the bottom of the seventh to give the Freedom a 5-3 lead. That was all the bullpen would need, as Ibanez and Castle combined to pitch two scoreless innings and the Freedom won their 4th straight game against the Paints. Cody Castle has recorded eight saves in a row.
