GAME RECAP / BOX SCORE

Florence loses wild series finale against Chillicothe
Freedom blow seven run lead, lose 12-8

The Florence Freedom lost a bizarre game to the Chillicothe Paints. Chillicothe came from seven runs down to win the series finale against the Freedom. Chillicothe avoided the sweep and improved their record to .500. Florence and Chillicothe have identical records; both teams are 21-21.

Florence struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Tim Grogan reached on an error to lead-off the game and scored on a double from Angel Molina. The Florence Freedom added two more runs in the bottom of the second and one run in the bottom of the third to take an early 4-0 lead.

Travis Garcia hit a monster homer for Chillicothe in the top of the fourth inning. It was a solo homer but it would be a sign of things to come for the Chillicothe Paints.

Florence scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kelly Hunt led the way with a two run homer, which is his 11th home run in only 22 games.

The wheels came off for the Freedom in the top of the 7th inning. Florence had an 8-1 lead, but the resilient Paints did not give up. The Paints scored seven runs in the inning and batted 13 batters. The lead-off hitter, Richey Burgos was retired to start the inning, but the next eight batters for the Paints all reached base. A Chillicothe pitcher, who had to enter the game in an emergency substitution, got a bunt single off Yosandy Ibanez in the midst of the Chillicothe rally. Kelly Hunt threw out a runner at home to record the second out of the inning, and Josh Blackstock grounded out to end the inning. However, the damage was done and after the smoke cleared the Paints had tied the game at eight.

Chillicothe added four more runs and the Freedom failed to score again. The Paints bullpen was outstanding, throwing four and a third scoreless innings.

Florence finished their home stand with a 6-6 record. Over the holiday weekend, The Freedom will play a three game series at Washington.
