GAME RECAP / BOX SCORE

Florence ends first half of the season with a 10-3 victory over Windy City
Win gives Florence a 26-25 record heading into the All-Star break

Florence ended the first half of the season on a positive note as they beat the Windy City Thunderbolts 10-3. Angel Molina and Kelly Hunt homered in the victory, and the bullpen pitched four and two thirds scoreless innings to power the Freedom to their 26th win of the season.

Florence fell behind early in the game after a three run second inning by the Thunderbolts. Windy City scored three runs on three hits to take the early lead. The pitching staff would rebound and would not allow another run in the ballgame.

Florence got a run back in the home half of the second inning with a lead-off homer from Angel Molina. Molina hit his 12th homer of the season, and the homer was the 16th lead-off homer run that the Freedom have hit in 2008.

Florence took the lead in their next at bat. The Freedom scored three runs in the bottom of the third thanks in part to a two-run homer from Kelly Hunt. Hunt was recently named to the All-Star team and he celebrated by hitting his 19th homer of the season, which leads the league.

Florence took a 4-3 lead out of the third inning, and they would add some insurance runs in the 4th and 5th innings. Nick Salotti scored in the bottom of the 4th and Ryan Basham hit a RBI single in the 5th which gave the Freedom a 5-3 lead.

Florence broke the game open in bottom of the 7th inning. Jeff Landry hit a two run double and the Freedom scored four times in the inning. Florence took a 10-3 lead and the Freedom would go on to win by that score as they took the rubber match against Windy City.

After the All-Star break, Florence will hit the road with series against league-leading Kalamazoo and Eastern Division rivals Traverse City.
