Florence falls to Midwest in extra innings, 2-1
MacFarlane shuts down Florence and the Freedom snap a four game winning streak
The Florence Freedom lost a tough game in extra innings to the Midwest Sliders. Ryan MacFarlane pitched a gem for the Sliders. He pitched eight scoreless innings, giving up only three hits and notching seven strikeouts. Midwest scored twice in the top of the 11th inning and held on to win by one run and send Florence to their first loss in five games. Florence had an equally impressive outing from pitcher Chris Ingoglia. Ingoglia also threw eight scoreless innings giving up only three hits. Ingoglia struck out nine batters which upped his season strikeout total to 82, which is good enough for second in the Frontier League behind Ryan Bird of Southern Illinois. The game remained scoreless until the top of the 11th inning. Jonnie Knoble led off the inning with a hit and Zachary Pace followed him with a walk. Both Knoble and Pace would score in the inning to give the Sliders a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 11th. Florence scored a run in the home half of the 11th on a base hit from Josh Lex. Garth McKinney, who had walked and stolen second, scored on the RBI hit from Lex. The Freedom were within one run, however Florence failed to score again in the bottom of the 11th. With Josh Lex on second base, Angel Molina hit a deep fly to right field. However, the right fielder Albano caught the ball just a few feet short of the fence and the Freedom lost by a score of 2-1. Florence and Midwest continue their series at Champion Window Field tomorrow at 7:05 p.m.
