The Miners score five runs in the 5th on way to their third straight victory

Southern Illinois jumped out to a 7-0 lead and hung on to win their third straight game by a 9-6 score. Southern Illinois leads the Western Division of the Frontier League and the Miners won their first meeting of the year against the Freedom.

Florence hung tough and got back in the ballgame with a five run inning of their own. The Freedom batted around and Billy Mottram hit a two run single as the Freedom scored five runs in the bottom of the 6th inning.

Southern Illinois added two more insurance runs in the top of the eighth and held off the Freedom’s rally in the bottom of the ninth to win by a score of 9-6.
