JOSE BRIZUELA SIGNED BY DODGERS
Slugging infielder gets second chance in affiliated baseball
FLORENCE, Ky. — The Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, have announced that the contract of infielder Jose Brizuela has been purchased by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Brizuela, a 2017 Frontier League all-star, signed with the Freedom on April 7 after spending the previous three seasons in the Oakland Athletics organization. In 73 games with the West Division-leading Freedom, Brizuela batted .321 with a team-leading 13 home runs and 59 runs batted in while playing third base.
“We’re very happy for Jose, as he’s proven that he is the player that got him drafted by the A’s (in 2014),” said Freedom manager Dennis Pelfrey. “He’s been a big part of our success for sure, and we will miss him. We wish him the very best in his future with the Los Angeles Dodgers.”
Brizuela is the 37th former Freedom player to sign with a Major League Baseball organization, and the fourth to do so in 2017. Pitchers Marty Anderson, Logan Longwith and Matt Pobereyko were all signed earlier in the season.
The Florence Freedom are members of the independent Frontier League and play all home games at UC Health Stadium located at 7950 Freedom Way in Florence, KY. The Freedom can be found online at FlorenceFreedom.com, or by phone at 859-594-4487.
