Rumfield goes into his second season and manager of the Freedom in 2010. He guided Florence to a 49-47 record in 2009, marking just the second time in the franchise's seven year history they managed to finished above .500.
The 2010 season will be Rumfield's fourth in the Frontier League after managing the River City Rascals in the 2007-08 season.
Rumfield was a second round draft pick by the Cincinnati Reds in 1991 as a catcher out of Belton High School in Texas. From 1991-97 he played in the Reds organization, advancing to at least AA for three of his six seasons.
In 1998 Rumfield was signed by the Atlanta Braves as a free agent. He spent time in Greenville (AA) and Richmond (AAA) for three years with the Braves. He made the 40 man roster with the Braves in 1999 and 2000, but never entered a Major League game.
He went on to play witn the Chicago White Sox, Montreal Expos, Florida Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals organizations through the 2002 season.
Rumfield won an Independent League championship with the Northern League's Fargo Red Hawks in 2003 before beginning his managing career one season later. In 2004, he managed the San Angelo Colts of the Independent United League. Rumfield has also served within Major League organizations as a scout since the 2005 season.
